Mercari Japan Anonymous Shipping: What Buyers Should Check

A listing that says postage is included does not, by itself, promise anonymous shipping. Postage included describes who pays for shipping; anonymous shipping concerns the information shared with the other party to the transaction. Read these as two separate conditions instead of treating one as evidence for the other.

This distinction also matters when you shop for Japanese items from overseas. Start with the shipping method used for the Japanese transaction. Then consider any proxy or forwarding service involved in your purchase. Keeping those steps separate helps you direct questions to the seller or service that can actually answer them.

Anonymous to whom?

The official Mercari guide describes shipping without the seller and buyer exchanging their names, addresses and telephone numbers. The carrier still uses delivery information to get the parcel to its destination. “Anonymous” therefore does not mean that a parcel can arrive without a delivery address.

A pre-purchase question should ask about the shipping method, not place your address in a public comment. For example: “I would like anonymous shipping; could you confirm the delivery method for this item?” This communicates your requirement without adding personal delivery details to the discussion. Wait for a specific answer about that listing.

Read the listing fields separately

The ROYAL MOLLY listing checked on 20 September 2026 showed postage included and an undecided delivery method. Its packaging description did not change that distinction. An explanation of how a seller will protect the item is useful, but it is not confirmation that a particular anonymous-shipping service has been selected.

This example comes from a listing associated with Koetsu, which publishes this article. Do not assume every item from the same seller has identical shipping arrangements. When comparing candidates, make a note of the delivery field for each individual item; a general impression of the shop cannot resolve a missing shipping detail.

Changes after purchase and Mercari Shops

For ordinary Mercari listings, the official guide says Rakuraku or YuYu Mercari shipping can be selected before the shipping procedure, including after purchase. Anonymity applies from the change. That does not mean delivery information displayed earlier was never visible, so a later change is not the same as choosing the method at the outset.

If anonymous shipping is essential to your purchase, discuss it beforehand and check that the listing’s actual method matches your requirement. A request alone is not confirmation of a completed change. If shipping is already underway, consult the official instructions for the service in use rather than assuming every method can still be changed.

The Mercari Shops guide lists Rakuraku Mercari shipping with anonymity support, while YuYu and Tano-Mercari shipping are not supported on Shops. Check which marketplace you are using before applying a delivery rule. A method available on an ordinary Mercari listing is not automatically available on a Shops product.
