Mercari Shops Restock Alerts: How to Set One and What It Does Not Promise

A sold-out item in Mercari Shops may offer an “alert me when restocked” action. That alert is useful for returning to a listing, but it is not a purchase, a queue place or a promise that the seller will replenish stock. Here is how the platform’s own help describes the setting, especially for items with multiple variants.

First identify a Mercari Shops listing

The official restock guide identifies Shops products by the black “メルカリShops” strip at the top of the item detail page. Do not assume a regular person-to-person Mercari listing has the same control. Check the page header and seller identity first, then use the instructions that match the sales channel.

For an out-of-stock item, tap “入荷時に通知” on its detail page. When the product has variants, the help says to tap “購入手続きへ” first; the alert option for an unavailable variant can then appear. The guide also says the alert button is not shown when every variant has stock. The precise interface can change, so follow the current label on the item you are viewing.

For a product with colours or sizes, record the particular variant you want. A shop may restock one variant while another remains unavailable. Even before setting an alert, read the exact variant, description, condition and shipping charge. The alert function does not check those purchase details for you and does not turn a different variant into the one you intended.

What triggers the alert—and when it cannot help

Mercari says that when stock is added to the registered item or variant, it sends an app push notification or an email to the registered address. The condition is an actual replenishment. If the shop never restocks that item, activating the alert does not create new inventory or an obligation for the seller to source it.

An alert does not reserve a unit for you. The item could sell out again before you open the message. Confirm current availability on the item page and through the actual checkout flow. Treat the notification as a prompt to look, not as a completed order or a guaranteed allocation. That is especially relevant for small collector releases.

The official guide says you cannot currently view a list of all registered restock alerts or cancel an alert request. If you set several, keep a private note of the item name, variant and link so you remember what you followed. That note is merely a personal tracking method, not a new Mercari feature or a way to manage alerts inside the app.

Recheck the listing when you return

When stock returns, the price, condition, shipping estimate or delivery charge may differ from what you remember. Follow the official Shops purchase flow: inspect the current listing, payment method, address and final amount before confirming purchase. A restock alert does not freeze earlier terms.

For someone outside Japan, receiving an alert and being able to complete a purchase for their destination are separate questions. Account access, the chosen buying route, any forwarding service, the item and the destination all affect feasibility.
