If you are out during the day, you may prefer to collect your Mercari purchases at a nearby convenience store or post office. In Japan, when an item ships by Yu-Yu Mercari Bin, you can choose a post office or certain convenience stores as the pickup point instead of your home. Based on Mercari's official help pages (checked on 6 October 2026), this guide covers the conditions, the steps and the pickup deadlines.
Where you can collect
According to Mercari's help, the pickup points you can choose with Yu-Yu Mercari Bin are post offices, Lawson, Ministop and Hakopos (Japan Post's parcel lockers). There is no extra charge; shipping is the usual size-based fee.
| Pickup point | Deadline (from arrival) | If you miss it |
|---|---|---|
| Post office | Within 7 days | Returned to the seller from the next day |
| Lawson / Ministop | Within 3 days | Returned to the seller from the next day |
| Hakopos locker | Within 3 days | Returned to the seller from the next day |
Convenience stores and Hakopos lockers only hold items for three days, so choose a place you can actually get to in time. After the deadline, the item goes back to the seller.
Conditions
Convenience store and post office pickup is only available when the item was listed with Yu-Yu Mercari Bin as its shipping method from the start. If another method was changed to Yu-Yu Mercari Bin after the transaction began, you cannot choose a convenience store, post office or Hakopos. Check the shipping method on the listing before you buy.
Size matters too. Items over size 100 can only be collected at a post office or received in person at an address. The help page says that if a parcel over size 100 is sent to a convenience store or Hakopos, it will be returned to the seller.
How to set the pickup point
- Before checkout: tap the delivery address on the purchase screen and choose 新しい受取場所を登録 (register a new pickup point)
- After checkout: tap お届け先 (delivery address) at the bottom of the transaction screen, then 新しい受取場所を登録
- Once the seller has displayed the 2D code for shipping, the pickup point can no longer be changed
- Typing a store or post office address into the normal address field does not work
The last point is the one to watch: always choose the pickup point through 新しい受取場所を登録 in the app rather than typing an address. Changes are only possible before the seller starts the shipping process, so set your preference early.
When it arrives: the numbers you need
When the parcel reaches the pickup point, the delivery status on the transaction screen changes to 店舗着荷 (arrived at store) and the numbers you need are shown. You are also notified by email, the to-do list and app notifications. At a post office, show the transaction screen or email at the counter so staff can check the inquiry number (お問い合わせ番号) and the authentication number (認証番号). You can also fill in the counter's pickup form (郵便局窓口受取確認書) with both numbers and your name.
One important warning: if you complete the receipt rating before collecting the item, you will no longer be able to see the inquiry and authentication numbers. Only rate the transaction after you have collected the item and checked it. If you rated by mistake, the help page says to contact Mercari through the inquiry form. For more on timing, see checking an item before rating on Mercari.
If the item ships by Rakuraku Mercari Bin
Rakuraku Mercari Bin, which uses Yamato Transport, works differently from the convenience store and post office pickup described here. Mercari's help lists contact-free options for Rakuraku Mercari Bin such as drop-off delivery (okihai), lockers at some FamilyMart stores (Fami Locker) and PUDO parcel lockers. Check the shipping method on your transaction screen and follow the instructions for that method.
This guide covers person-to-person sales on Mercari. Items on Mercari Shops may handle shipping differently, so check the listing and the Shops help pages. All of these pickup points are in Japan.
