Before Buying a Handmade Fluffy Chenille (Moru) Dog: One-of-a-Kind Differences, Compressed Shipping and Small Parts
Using a handmade fluffy chenille dog doll listed at our Loop KOBE shop as an example, this guide explains one-of-a-kind variation, how to tell the included parts from photo props, how to fluff the doll up after it arrives compressed, and what to know about small parts like the glasses and lollipop.
Written by Koetsu Co., Ltd.

Moru art, in which fluffy chenille stems (wire covered in pile) are bent into shapes, has become popular for its soft, cuddly look. Our Loop KOBE shop on Mercari lists little dog dolls made one by one from fluffy chenille. Using the beige dog as an example, this guide walks through what to check before buying a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece, based on our listing photos.
What is included
According to the product page, you get one handmade chenille dog in beige, decorated with a pink polka-dot bow on the head (with organza), round gold glasses, a lollipop and a pink bow at the neck.
| Seen in the photos | Included? |
|---|---|
| The beige dog itself | Yes |
| Head bow, glasses, lollipop, neck bow | Yes, as decorations on the doll |
| The jar, bag and other props in the background | No, photo props only |
The listing states that the background and props in the photos are for photography only and are not part of the item. The clear printed bag and the jar behind the doll do not come with it; expect the doll and its decorations only.
One of a kind means small differences
Because each dog is made by hand, the listing notes that small details of shape and expression may differ slightly from the photos. Even within the same style, bow patterns, pile and the position of the glasses vary. Alongside the beige dog, we also list a white one with a large lace-trimmed pink bow.
To see the face from other angles and the back, go through all the photos on the product page. The photo below is our unedited listing photo of the beige dog from behind.

If it arrives squashed
The listing explains that the doll is packed compressed for shipping, so the pile may be flattened or the shape slightly out of place when it arrives. This comes from the packing, and the listing asks buyers to fluff it up gently by hand before displaying it.
- Once out of the bag, gently push the overall shape back with your fingers
- Lift flattened pile from the base with your fingertips
- Straighten the bows and glasses, using the listing photos as a guide
- Do not pull hard, which can bend the shape or shift the decorations
These are general suggestions. Each piece is made a little differently, so adjust it gradually rather than forcing it.
Small parts and where to display it
Because the dog has small parts such as the glasses and lollipop, the listing asks buyers to display it out of reach of small children. Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency likewise notes that a child's mouth is about 4 cm across, that anything smaller can end up in the mouth and be swallowed, and that small objects should be kept out of children's reach.
We list this doll as a decorative piece. If you are giving it to a child, check that the parts are secure and think about where it will be displayed.
