Running Late for an Osaka Yakitori Reservation? What to Say on the Phone
If you may be late for a yakitori booking in Osaka, call with your name, booking time, party size and realistic arrival estimate. A practical script and what to verify.

A train connection or a longer-than-expected walk can make a yakitori dinner reservation tight. As soon as you think you may be late, open the booking confirmation and check the time and the restaurant phone number. A short call with a realistic estimate gives the restaurant information it can act on; silence leaves it guessing.
Have four details ready before calling
Give the booking name, reserved time, party size and your best arrival estimate, in that order. A useful Japanese example is: “19時に2名で予約した王です。電車が遅れていて、19時15分ごろになりそうです” — “I booked for two at 7 p.m. under Wang. The train is delayed and I expect to arrive around 7:15.” If you do not know the time yet, say you will update the restaurant rather than promising an impossible arrival.
You do not need a long story about every station or sightseeing stop. The restaurant needs to match your call to a booking and understand who will arrive when. Stop in a safe place before calling. If you miss an answer, say “もう一度ゆっくりお願いします” (“Please say that again slowly”). English-speaking service varies by restaurant and should not be assumed.
A delay notice is not a guarantee that a table will be held
Ask “このまま伺ってもよろしいでしょうか” — “Is it still all right for us to come?” A reservation slot, course preparation and current occupancy can change the answer. This guide cannot set a universal number of grace minutes. Check the terms of the service through which you booked and the restaurant’s answer before assuming a change or cancellation is accepted.
If one person will arrive first, say “1名が先に着きます。もう1名は遅れます” — “One guest will arrive first; the other will be late.” If the number of diners has changed, explain that too. Courses or seating may need adjustment, so an advance question is more useful than first mentioning the change at the door.
| Situation | Useful Japanese |
|---|---|
| About 15 minutes late | 15分ほど遅れそうです。 |
| Arrival time uncertain | 分かり次第、もう一度お電話します。 |
| Check whether booking can continue | このまま伺ってもよろしいでしょうか。 |
If your destination is Minamikyuhoji
The official Yakitori Senkichi site lists 06-4256-3135 and the address 3-2-15 Minamikyuhoji-cho, Chuo-ku, Osaka, Sankyubashi Gardenscape E. It displays 17:00–22:30 opening hours and notes occasional irregular closures. Call the restaurant during business hours to confirm a booking change and the schedule for your actual date.
When sharing a destination pin, check the building name through its final E, not only the restaurant name. First-time visitors can also consult our Honmachi-to-Minamikyuhoji guide. Any route article is a planning aid; current construction, transit delays and your actual arrival time still need checking.
Read the restaurant name in the booking message again. Calling a similarly named venue or another branch can waste the minutes you are trying to save. Compare the contact shown by your booking service with the venue’s official page; if they differ, verify which contact applies to your actual reservation before sharing details.
Before hanging up, repeat what the restaurant agreed to: “19時15分ごろに2名で伺います。ありがとうございます” (“Two of us will come around 7:15. Thank you”). This reduces mistakes about time or party size. If no one answers, do not treat that as consent to a later arrival; check any contact route supplied by the booking service.
Before setting out, check the official restaurant details for the address and phone number, then call when needed. Koetsu Co., Ltd. edited this guide from information checked on September 27, 2026.
