Blue Archive Hoshino "Plush Transport Card": Reading the Chinese Box from the Shanghai Public Transportation Card Collaboration, and Why It Will Not Work on Japanese Transit
Using our own listing photos of the Blue Archive Hoshino plush, this guide explains what the Chinese wording on the box means, including the material, age and care information on the back, who the issuer is, why the card function cannot be used on Japanese transit, and what to know about the dented plastic box and how it is packed for shipping.

Among the character goods sold at events and online in China are items that look like plush toys but say "transport card" on the box. The one we look at here is a Blue Archive plush of Takanashi Hoshino that we list on Mercari. The front of the box says 毛绒交通卡, which means roughly "plush transport card".
If you cannot read Chinese, it is hard to tell what the box is actually saying or whether the item works in Japan. This page reads the text in our own photos piece by piece and sets out what to check before buying. The wording comes from the photos; where glare makes the top of the back hard to read, we compared it with another side of the box.

What the front of the box says
| On the box | Meaning | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 毛绒交通卡 | Plush transport card | The product type |
| 小鸟游星野 | Takanashi Hoshino | The character's name in Simplified Chinese |
| 秋星曜野,桂月垂光 | Poetic wording about autumn stars and the moon | Apparently the name of this design |

The plush has pink hair, embroidered eyes in two different colours and a blue Japanese-style outfit, with a small white rabbit-like mascot on its head. A ball chain is also visible, so it looks as though it could be clipped to a bag. All the photos are taken through the bag and box, though, so fine details may look a little different in person.
In Chinese, Blue Archive is written 蔚蓝档案, and you can see those characters inside the box in the photo taken from above. The top of the back says 上海公共交通卡 (Shanghai Public Transportation Card) and 联名毛绒交通卡, which shows this is a plush-style card made as a collaboration between the Shanghai card and Blue Archive. 联名 means a collaboration, or joint branding.

The warnings panel says not to pull hard, to keep it away from flames and sharp objects, to keep it dry, to keep the packaging away from children to avoid suffocation, and to keep the packaging because it contains important information. For Chinese labels in general, see our guide to the back of a luggage tag.
The box mentions both wiping and hand washing, but it also says to keep the item dry. The box alone does not settle whether something containing a card function should go in water. If you are simply displaying it, the safer choice is to stick to a light wipe with a damp cloth.
Does it work as a transit card in Japan?
No. As the product page says, it cannot be used as an IC card on transport in Japan. It is no substitute for Suica or ICOCA. In Japan, think of it as a Chinese collaboration plush that happens to have a card function, a piece of merchandise to display or carry around.
The back of the box has QR codes leading to top-up instructions and a list of usable cities, along with a pointer to the Shanghai card app. We have not, however, tested the card function, its balance or whether it works in China. If you plan to use it there, please check with the issuer's information before buying.

The box and how it ships
The thing to check most carefully is the outer plastic box. The plush itself is new and unused, but the box picked up dents, creases and scuffs on its way from overseas. To keep shipping costs down, we also press the box down slightly when packing and ship it in a post office box, so it may deform further. If you want to display it in a pristine box, this one is not for you.
- You do not intend to use the card in Japan: it will not work on Japanese transit
- You are fine with dents, creases and scuffs on the box: it may deform further in shipping
- You accept variation in stitching: this overseas product can have minor differences from new
- Shipping timing: we do not ship at weekends, and purchases after 18:00 on Friday ship the following Monday
This is a normal Mercari transaction within Japan. For the latest price, availability and condition, please see the product page. This article explains how to read the box; it is not information issued by the card company or the rights holders.
