Mellojoy MELLOWEEN Halloween Squishy, Yukiko: Reading the Box Label (Food-Grade Silicone, Ages 12+, Not for Under 3s) and How to Store It

Using our own photos of the Mellojoy MELLOWEEN Halloween squishy Yukiko listed on Mercari, this guide explains the Japanese and English labelling on the back of the box (product name, main material, age, manufacturer, outer-bag material), why there are two different age warnings, what tiny bubbles and colour unevenness mean, and how to store the squishy and its spare bag.

On our personal Mercari account we have listed Yukiko, a squishy from Mellojoy's MELLOWEEN Halloween series. A squishy is a toy you squeeze or press for the feel of it, slowly returning to shape afterwards. Today, 31 October, is Halloween, so this is a good moment to read the labelling on this seasonal box.

Based on the photos we took of the actual item, this article goes through the front and back of the box, the marks on the base and sides, and the spare bag that comes with it. It does not cover anything not printed on the box, such as how the brand sells its products or how many were made.

The front of the box: MELLOWEEN and Yukiko

The box is orange, with the MELLOWEEN logo at the top and the Mellojoy logo below it. It is decorated with Halloween images such as cobwebs, pumpkins, a castle and a witch's hat, and the squishy is visible through a clear window. To the right of the window is a Japanese line that reads "handmade by specialist craftspeople".

Reading the back of the box

The back of the box carries product information and warnings in three languages: English, Japanese and Korean. The main items are summarised in the table below.

Label itemWhat the box saysMeaning
Product nameMELLOJOY Stress-Relief ToyA toy for relieving stress
Main materialFood-Grade Silicone / Silicone Pigment PasteSilicone, plus silicone-based colouring
Recommended age12 years old and aboveThe age the toy is intended for
ManufacturerYinke Toys (Wuhan) Co., Ltd.The maker, based in Jianghan District, Wuhan, Hubei, China
Distributor(Japanese column) a company in Shinjuku, TokyoThe distributor in Japan
Outer bag materialPVCThe bag around the squishy is polyvinyl chloride
Country of originMade in ChinaMade in China

"Food-grade silicone" means the toy uses a grade of silicone that is also used for things that touch food. It does not mean the toy is edible, and the warning on the back says clearly that it is not food. We have not tested the material ourselves, so we present this only as what is printed on the box.

The barcode number starts with 45. That shows the code was registered by a business in Japan; it does not indicate where the product was made, and this box says Made in China. We explained how to tell these apart in our article on items bought overseas versus country of origin.

"Ages 12+" and "not for under 3s" are different warnings

There are two age-related statements on the back. One says the recommended age is 12 and up, the age the product is designed for. The other is a warning: "CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Not for children under 3 years old." The Japanese text adds that there is a risk of swallowing and choking, so it must never be given to children under 3.

In other words, it works on two levels: the toy is not made for children under 12, and in particular must never be given to children under 3 because of the choking risk. The side of the box also carries a "do not put in mouth" symbol and a crossed-out 0-3 symbol. The Tokyo Fire Department advises that anything small enough to pass through a toilet-roll tube is dangerous for young children, and notes that for children aged 2 and over, toys are the most common cause of such accidents after food and sweets.

Bubbles, colour unevenness and storage

As our product page explains, squishies can have tiny bubbles or slight colour unevenness from the start because of how they are made. We list this one as new and unopened, so these details on the squishy inside cannot be checked without opening the box. If they matter to you, look closely at the photos on the product page and ask in the comments before buying.

  • Keep it away from high heat, humidity and direct sunlight, as the label says
  • Store it out of reach of small children and pets
  • Keep fingernails and sharp objects away from it
  • If dust sticks to it, handle it gently rather than scrubbing hard
  • When not in use, keep it in the spare bag or the box

This listing includes one clear spare bag for storing or swapping. It is printed with words such as MELLOJOY SQUISHY and HAND MADE. For more on reading toy packaging, see our article on the SKULLPANDA plush box label.

Price and availability can change, so please check the product page for the latest information. Our personal Mercari listings are for transactions within Japan, and we do not ship directly overseas. We do not ship on weekends or public holidays.
